Retiree Wins Tax Exemption on Rs 9.53 Lakh Leave Encashment

Mr. Chhaju, a retired State Bank of India employee from Jaipur, received Rs 9.53 lakh as leave encashment in 2020. Initially, tax authorities allowed only Rs 3 lakh exemption, taxing the rest. However, on August 31, 2026, ITAT Jaipur ruled in his favor, exempting the entire amount from tax. Nationalised bank employees cannot claim full exemption under Section 10(10AA) before 2023, but this case set a precedent.
