Retired Turkish Cop Dies by Suicide at Pensioners' Protest

Ali Sekeroglu, a 60-year-old retired police officer in Turkey, shot himself during a pensioners' protest outside the Constitutional Court in Ankara on September 25. Struggling financially on his pension, he expressed despair over his family's economic hardships, including two unemployed sons and inability to afford a gold coin for his grandchild's birth. He later died in hospital. The protest called for better pensions and public employee pay raises.
