SciencePhoto: HT WorldResearchers Detect Critically Endangered Chinese Bahaba in Hong Kong Waters
Researchers from Lingnan University detected traces of the critically endangered Chinese bahaba in western Hong Kong waters for the first time in over a decade using environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis. The fish itself was not caught; instead, DNA left in seawater provided evidence. The Chinese bahaba, once abundant near Tai O, is now critically endangered due to overfishing driven by demand for its medicinal swim bladder.
