SciencePhoto: HT WorldRemoval of 1950s Vermont Dam Restores Creek Floodplain
A dam built in the early 1950s by a Vermont dairy farmer in Colchester was removed in 2022 to restore the farm creek’s floodplain. The dam had altered the creek’s flow, causing erosion, reducing wildlife habitat, and increasing nutrient runoff into Lake Champlain. Removing the dam slowed stormwater flow, improved water quality, and helped restore natural habitats.
