The Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) indicated that rate cuts are unlikely soon as headline inflation is expected to reach 6% in Q3 of this financial year. All six members voted for a 25-basis-point repo rate hike to 5.50%, but two members opposed changing the stance from neutral to calibrated tightening. RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said future moves could be a rate hike or pause, depending on inflation trends and supply shocks.
