RBI Extends Forex Risk Reserve to Banks' Own Hedging Contracts
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has expanded the foreign exchange risk reserve (FERR) requirement to include rupee derivative contracts used by authorised dealers to hedge currency risks on their own assets and liabilities. Unlike the previous rule applying only to contracts above $2 million with users, the new rule has no threshold. Dealers must maintain a 20% cash reserve of the rupee value daily with RBI until contract termination.
