ScienceRare Moth Uses Umbilicate Lichen for Camouflage in Himachal Pradesh
A study published in Arthropod-Plant Interactions reports the first known case of a moth using the umbilicate lichen Lasallia pertusa as camouflage. The observation was made in July 2025 at 3,200 m elevation in Duggi, Kugti Wildlife Sanctuary, Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh. This finding expands known lichen types involved in insect camouflage and highlights the ecological role of this lichen species.
