A rare black granite sculpture of Goddess Gajalakshmi from the 9th century Rashtrakuta period was found neglected in Yanagandla village, Kulcharam mandal, Medak district, Telangana. The sculpture shows Lakshmi seated in Padmasana with lotus flowers and elephants anointing her. It uniquely depicts the Samudra Manthan scene above, a feature not previously reported in Telangana or Andhra Pradesh. Heritage activists and historians examined the artifact on October 10, 2026.
