Railways Prioritize 34-km Rangpo-Gangtok Rail Link in Sikkim
The Indian Railways has prioritized a 34-km rail link between Rangpo and Gangtok, Sikkim's capital, estimated to cost around Rs 9,000 crore. This extension follows the ongoing Sivok-Rangpo line, expected to complete by December 2027, which will provide Sikkim its first direct rail connectivity. The project faces challenges due to difficult Himalayan terrain requiring tunnels and bridges.
