Railway Union Demands End to Contract Staff in Safety-Critical Posts

The South Central Railway Employees’ Sangh (SCRES) has opposed the Railways Ministry's increasing use of contract workers in safety-critical roles and demanded timely filling of vacancies. SCRES general secretary M. Raghaviah cited a Commissioner of Railway Safety recommendation to minimize and eventually eliminate contract workers in safety duties after the October 11, 2024 Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express collision. Indian Railways has about 1.5 lakh vacancies in safety categories.
