Railway Freezes Proposal to Extend Kollam-Kottayam MEMU to Ernakulam

The Railway Ministry has temporarily halted the plan to extend the Kollam–Kottayam MEMU train to Ernakulam following strong protests from daily commuters and passengers' groups. MP Kodikunnil Suresh stated that instead of introducing a new train to ease overcrowding on the Venad Express, officials tried to extend the existing MEMU service. The MP alleged political interference by the BJP influenced this decision. The MEMU currently serves key stations and is vital for evening commuters.
