In Kamrup district, Assam, the Rabha community consumes the Indian black earth tiger spider (Lyrognathus crotalus), locally called bhaluk makara, as a seasonal food from April to June. A study published in Proceedings of the Zoological Society documents this practice. Researchers interviewed 34 community members near Mouman village, noting that spider collection occurs three to four days monthly during pre-monsoon, yielding 20 to 30 spiders per trip.
