Progress in Northern Ireland Parade Dispute Talks

Talks to resolve a standoff over a Protestant Orange Order parade in Northern Ireland made progress. Catholic residents said they would accept a government proposal if the Orange Order agreed. The dispute began after thousands blocked the parade in Portadown. After seven hours of talks with Northern Ireland minister Chris Bryant, residents reviewed a proposal but await Orange Order's response. Bryant called a resolution "tantalisingly close."
