The poem 'Abar Ashibo Phire' by Jibanananda Das, written in 1934 before Partition, reflects the longing for undivided Bengal's landscapes and nature. Published in 1957, it gained new meaning for Bengalis displaced by Partition. Refugees from East Bengal lost not only homes but also food traditions tied to rivers, fields, and kitchens. Upon arriving in Calcutta, they registered as refugees and were relocated based on their backgrounds.
