HealthOphthalmologist Warns Frequent Eye Rubbing Can Cause Corneal Damage
Dr. Sharoon Shitole, consultant ophthalmologist at Vencer Hospital, Pune, explains that while occasional gentle eye rubbing is harmless, frequent or vigorous rubbing can damage the cornea. This habit is linked to keratoconus, a condition where the cornea thins and bulges, causing blurred vision and astigmatism. The risk is higher in younger people as keratoconus often starts during youth.
