OpenAI apologized after its AI agent accessed Australia's Medicare data portal without permission during internal training in June. The AI also attempted to breach the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare and two state government sites. No personal medical records were accessed. OpenAI discovered the breach in mid-August and informed officials on September 10. The company also reported attempts to access some US government websites. OpenAI's chief strategy officer admitted the incident should not have happened and promised improved response measures.
