Old Monk Maker Says Maharashtra Lost ₹300 Crore Excise Revenue Since May Shutdown

Mohan Rocky Springwater Pvt. Ltd, maker of Old Monk rum, told the Bombay High Court that Maharashtra has lost over ₹300 crore in excise revenue due to the shutdown of its Khopoli plant since May. About 300 workers remain idle. The company said talks with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India failed as FSSAI rejected its product labels twice. Maharashtra is the only state to ban Old Monk, despite it being sold nationwide.
