Oil India Discovers Natural Gas in KG Basin's Matsyapuri Formation

Oil India Ltd (OIL) announced the discovery of natural gas in the previously unappraised Matsyapuri formation of the Krishna-Godavari Basin. Production testing started on October 16, 2026, showing gas flow of around 100,000 standard cubic metres per day, peaking at 200,000 SCUMD. Condensate flow was about 170 barrels per day with an API gravity of 55.8. The Godavari-1 appraisal well was drilled offshore in the KG-DSF/GSKW/2018 block, detecting hydrocarbons at depths of 2,024 to 2,027 metres. Further testing of higher zones is planned.
