Norway fines Microsoft's Xandr $9.6M for Grindr data sharing
Norway's data protection authority fined Microsoft's adtech unit Xandr 92 million crowns ($9.61 million) for illegally sharing Grindr users' sensitive data, including sexual orientation, with thousands of advertisers from July 2018 to April 2020. This is Norway's largest fine, targeting ad middlemen rather than Grindr itself. Xandr assumed Grindr had user consent but was held legally responsible alongside Grindr. Xandr has three weeks to appeal.
