Nine Injured in Explosion at Mangalore Refinery Unit

At least nine people were injured in an explosion at the Coker Hydro Treating Unit of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited in Surathkal, Karnataka, on Wednesday around 12:15 pm. Emergency teams controlled the fire. The blast caused window damage in nearby homes. Officials including Dakshina Kannada's deputy commissioner and police commissioner visited the site. Further details are awaited from MRPL management.

Cabinet Approves MSP Hike for Rabi Crops in 2027-28 Season

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved an increase in Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for all mandated Rabi crops for the 2027-28 marketing season. Safflower saw the highest rise of ₹675 per quintal (10.3%) to ₹7,215. Rapeseed and mustard MSP increased by 6.7% to ₹6,613, barley by 6.3% to ₹2,286, masur dal by 5.6% to ₹7,390, gram by 1.4% to ₹5,958, and wheat by 1% to ₹2,610 per quintal. The hike aligns with the Union Budget 2018-19 policy to set MSP at least 1.5 times the weighted average cost of production.
