The National Investigation Agency (NIA) will request the Indian government’s permission to send a team to the UAE to record the statement of Indian pilot Smit Machchhar and coordinate with local investigators regarding the hijacking attempt on Flydubai flight FZ-1073 last month. The NIA may also seek to question the arrested Omani co-pilot Hamam al-Hammami. The agency has filed a case to probe a larger conspiracy under the Anti-Hijacking Act, 2016.
