NGT Orders FIRs for Theft of State-Owned Minerals in Odisha

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) ruled that police and mining authorities must register FIRs under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for theft of state-owned minerals. The NGT directed the Odisha government to initiate criminal proceedings and recover environmental compensation for illegal sand mining in the Mahanadi riverbed at Chikhili village, Bargarh district. FIRs were ordered against Prem Kishore Patel for illegal mining without a valid lease.
