ScienceNew Toad Species Discovered on Mizoram's Phawngpui Peak
A new toad species named Duttaphyrnus phawngpui sp. nov. was described in May 2026 from Phawngpui National Park in southeastern Mizoram, near the Myanmar border. Found at over 2,000 meters on Mizoram's highest peak, researchers identified it through morphological and DNA analysis. This species and its close relatives are mostly limited to the eastern Himalayas' higher ranges, favoring dense shrubbery and bamboo habitats with low human disturbance.
