New Agnipath Framework Applies Only to Current Agniveers

The new Agnipath framework announced on Wednesday will apply exclusively to the 300,000 current Agniveers. The scheme, cleared by the Cabinet and unveiled by Chief of Defence Staff General NS Raja Subramani, will be reviewed before extending to future recruits after December 31. The next batch starting training next year will complete their tenure in 2031. The scheme now allows 75% of Agniveers to serve two more years and then be absorbed as regular soldiers, with periodic reviews planned.
