ScienceNew 222-Metre Crater Discovered on Moon in Spring 2024
During a routine Moon map quality check, astronomers identified a bright spot with a dark halo, marking a new 222-metre-wide crater named McGetchin. This crater, not present before spring 2024, is the largest newly formed crater found in the solar system. The area around it shows a temperature difference of 8 to 9 Kelvin at night, indicating recent geological activity.
