Navi Pillay, a South African judge and human rights advocate, won the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts against war crimes and crimes against humanity. Born in Durban in 1941 to Indian Tamil parents, she grew up under apartheid and has worked to challenge racial discrimination and defend human rights. She currently serves on the International Court of Justice in a genocide case involving Myanmar.
