While mortgage rates have risen nationally in the US, 13 states saw declines between Q1 and Q2 of 2026, according to a WalletHub report. North Dakota had the largest drop, falling 3.68 percentage points to 5.00%. South Dakota and Wyoming also saw significant decreases. Other states with falling rates include Hawaii, Iowa, Louisiana, Vermont, Rhode Island, West Virginia, Maine, Nevada, Texas, and Montana.
