More Chinese AI Researchers Work in US Despite Visa Curbs
A Carnegie Endowment study of 10,280 NeurIPS 2025 authors reveals that for every 30 Chinese-origin AI researchers in the US, only one US-trained researcher works in China. China produces 57% of elite AI talent and retains most of it domestically, while Singapore and South Korea also gain ground. A Syracuse University expert warns the US is slowly losing its global talent appeal.
