Recent moderate rainfall in Chikkamagaluru district over the past three to four days has improved conditions for rabi crop sowing, providing relief to farmers and coffee and arecanut growers affected by a dry spell. The southwest monsoon deficit had severely impacted kharif and ragi cultivation, with only 36% of the targeted ragi area sown. The northeast monsoon showers now favor rabi crops like chickpea, jowar, and horse gram, especially in Ajjampura taluk where sowing is increasing.
