Michigan to Ban Untreated Firewood from 2027 to Prevent Pests
Starting January 1, 2027, Michigan will prohibit untreated, uncertified firewood to stop the spread of over 140 plant pests and diseases. The ban affects travelers, campers, and businesses, with exceptions for certified, heat-treated wood and some wood products. In 2027, authorities will focus on public awareness, while repeat violations from 2028 may incur fines between $1,000 and $10,000.
