Maritza Sanchez from Cuautlancingo, Mexico, is developing microbial fuel cells to address severe pollution in the Atoyac River. Her project, Aquayac Energy, aims to produce sustainable electricity while purifying contaminated water. By 2027, she plans to deploy 50 operational fuel cells, improving energy access and water quality in the region.
