Meta Ordered to Pay $25 Billion Penalty for Violations in New Mexico
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has been ordered to pay a $25 billion civil penalty for violating New Mexico’s Unfair Practices Act. Initially, the penalty was set at over $219 billion, or $5,000 per violation, but U.S. Judge Francis Mathew reduced it to $25 billion. The court noted an extraordinary number of willful violations by Meta, marking the largest fine the company has ever faced.
