Mayon Volcano in Philippines Erupts, Ash Reaches 3 Km High

The Mayon Volcano, one of the Philippines' most active volcanoes, erupted with a dark ash column rising 3,000 meters into the sky during a nearly six-minute moderately explosive event. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology raised the alert level to 3 and called for evacuations within six kilometers of the crater due to risks of lava flows and pyroclastic density currents.
