PoliticsManipur Forests See Bamboo Replace Poppy Cultivation
The Manipur Forest Department has planted bamboo on 255 hectares of forestland previously used for poppy cultivation, a factor in the state's ethnic conflict. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Anurag Bajpai said 307 hectares were identified under poppy cultivation in Chandel, Churachandpur, and Senapati districts. Bamboo plantations aim to restore degraded forests and offer local livelihoods while discouraging illegal poppy farming.
