The Mangaluru City Corporation has introduced fines ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 for pet owners who do not clean their dogs' excreta in public places. The policy also mandates vaccination, sterilisation, and leashing of pets, and warns against abandonment. The success of these measures depends largely on strict enforcement rather than just penalty severity. The Karnataka High Court recently directed BBMP to increase penalties for similar violations in Bengaluru.
