Male Burmese Pythons Show Seasonal Hormone Changes Before Breeding
A study in South Florida found that male Burmese pythons experience a significant seasonal increase in testosterone as the breeding season nears. Researchers tracked testosterone and corticosterone levels in free-ranging males, noting that while testosterone showed a clear seasonal pattern, corticosterone, a hormone related to stress and energy, varied less predictably throughout the year. The findings were published in General and Comparative Endocrinology.
