Maldives Sinks Two Retired Aircraft to Create Underwater Reef
Two decommissioned Dornier 228 aircraft were submerged near Kudagiri Island in the Maldives to form a unique diving attraction. Conservation teams are attaching coral fragments to underwater frames to establish an artificial reef. The project, starting coral restoration in 2026, aims to blend marine tourism with aviation history while monitoring ecological impacts through collaboration among various organizations.
