Mahesh Kakde, Professor at IISc's Department of Mathematics, has been awarded the 2026 Ramanujan Prize for his fundamental work in algebraic number theory. His research on non-commutative Iwasawa theory and the Gross-Stark and Brumer-Stark conjectures advances solutions to Hilbert’s 12th problem. Kakde is the fifth Indian to receive this prestigious award, jointly given by ICTP and IMU to young mathematicians from developing countries.
