Magnetic Bacteria Extend Worm Lifespan by Over 43%
Researchers at Hefei Institutes of Physical Science discovered that the bacterium Magnetospirillum magneticum AMB-1 increased the lifespan of C. elegans worms by 43.39%. Treated worms showed improved neurological function and intestinal health during aging. The study linked these benefits to reduced ferroptosis and iron accumulation, emphasizing the role of magnetosomes. Comparisons with non-magnetic bacteria highlighted magnetosome production's importance in lifespan extension.
