Madras HC Rules Non-Hindus Must Respect Customs to Enter Agamic Temples
The Madras High Court ruled that non-Hindus unwilling to show reverence or follow established customs cannot enter Agamic temples, to preserve their religious sanctity. The decision arose from a PIL seeking enforcement of the Tamil Nadu Temple Entry Authorisation Act. The court clarified its ruling applies only to Agamic temples, which follow Agama shastras for rituals and architecture. The judges cited CM Vijay's visit to Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple as an example of respecting temple traditions.
