Louisiana Landowner Converts 300 Flood-Prone Acres into Wildlife Corridor
Michael Liles, a Louisiana landowner, transformed over 300 flood-prone acres in Franklin Parish into a wildlife corridor after repeated flooding from the Boeuf River hindered his plans for cattle grazing and soybean farming. With support from the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service, the project includes restoring water flow across 9.2 acres and establishing 183 acres of bottomland hardwood forest by February 2026, benefiting species like the Louisiana black bear and northern long-eared bat.
