Ladakh Dissolves Kargil Hill Council, Doubles Elected Seats to 100

Ladakh has dissolved the Autonomous Hill Development Council in Kargil following district reorganisation. The Kargil council ceased immediately after the resignation of its chief executive councillor and others. Its powers are now with the deputy commissioner and chief executive officer of Kargil until new councils form. The total elected seats across eight hill councils have been set at 100, nearly double the previous combined strength. Leh will have 22 seats, Kargil 21, and Sankoo 13.
