Ladakh Defends Cancellation of Land Allotment to Sonam Wangchuk’s Institute

The Ladakh administration informed the Jammu and Kashmir High Court that the land allotted to Sonam Wangchuk’s Himalayan Institute of Alternative Learning (HIAL) was cancelled because the institute failed to meet the allotment conditions. The 40-year lease lapsed on May 5, 2019, as HIAL neither executed the lease deed nor paid the land premium within one year. The cancellation order covers 1,076 kanals and one marla at Phyang Thang.
