Kerala’s Suicide Tree Poisoning Poses Forensic Challenges
The suicide tree, known as othalanga, grows along Kerala's shores and bears a poisonous fruit containing cerberin, a toxin that disrupts heart rhythms and can be fatal. Between 1989 and 1999, many deaths were linked to othalanga poisoning. Its symptoms often overlap with other conditions, making diagnosis difficult. Awareness is vital for prevention and timely medical treatment.
