Kerala High Court Seeks Centre's Response on BitChat Blocking Plea

The Kerala High Court has asked the Centre to respond to a petition challenging the blocking of BitChat, an open-source Bluetooth messaging app by GitHub that gained popularity during Delhi's July 2026 internet shutdowns. The Ministry of Electronics and IT ordered the block in October under the IT Act. Apple and Google removed BitChat from their India app stores following the order. The court has directed relevant ministries and companies to file affidavits and is considering the petition's maintainability.
