Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar requested Rs 7,142.64 crore in drought relief from the Union government as an inter-ministerial team began assessing crop losses. The state declared 177 of 240 taluks drought-affected, estimating losses at Rs 46,324.50 crore. Initially, 101 taluks were declared affected with Rs 3,705.30 crore sought under NDRF norms. The demand rose after adding 76 taluks.
