The Karnataka Cabinet approved a Bill to amend the federal Apprentice Act, increasing the maximum apprentice quota for industries from 15% to 25% of their total workforce. The Bill may be introduced in the winter legislative session. Currently, establishments with 30 or more employees must engage apprentices between 2.5% and 15%. Skill Development Minister Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil said this will provide more industry exposure to students, similar to Maharashtra's policy.
