The Karnataka Planters’ Association has urged the Centre and state government to increase compensation for deaths caused by human-wildlife conflict from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. They highlighted serious conflicts involving elephants, wild boar, bison, and monkeys in Kodagu, Hassan, and Chikmagalur, threatening planters and workers. They also proposed a real-time portal for claim settlements within 30 days. Karnataka’s 2026-27 coffee crop is projected at 2.79 lakh tonnes, contributing over 70% of India’s total output.
