Karnataka Launches Campaign to Close Unsafe Open Borewells

The Karnataka government has launched the ‘Borewell Suraksha Abhiyan’ to eliminate unsafe open borewells statewide, following multiple child fatalities. Minor Irrigation Minister Dr Ajay Dharm Singh announced the campaign will verify and secure all failed and defunct borewells under the Minor Irrigation Department. The Ground Water Development Directorate will prepare a plan for identification, closure, and monitoring of these borewells to ensure child safety.
