Karnataka Jail Officer Arrested for Fake Supreme Court Order to Free Prisoner

A deputy inspector general-level officer of Karnataka jail department, M. Somshekhar, was arrested for allegedly helping a life-sentenced prisoner get released in 2018 using a fake Supreme Court order. The prisoner’s wife was also arrested, accusing Somshekhar of sexual exploitation during the release process. The case surfaced in May 2024 after a complaint by the current superintendent of Bengaluru Central Jail.
